Well, a day and a vodka tonic or two.
Yesterday was a disaster. I ranted, I rambled, I had a cocktail or two, I moved on.
Today is much, much better.
For starters, I got up at the crack of dawn to go to Target. Notwithstanding the fact that, as someone who has worked a lot of retail in her day, I think holidays should be off limits when it comes to shopping, I was really happy to find out that Target was open. Not only was it open, this one had school uniforms – in Katie’s size! So, luckily, Katie has to neither find a way to miraculously shrink a size nor go to school naked. She has a school uniform. And shoes that both fit and meet with her approval (which, in and of itself is nothing short of amazing). There is a God.
Target also had coffee. Did I mention that we were out of coffee? And we cannot be out of coffee at my house. There are severe consequences for that sort of thing, not the least of which involves a very ugly side of lawmummy that nobody needs to see.
I loaded up on some juice boxes and snacks for school, picked up a dress for me just because it was cute (and I never shop for myself) and got home, all while Amy happily chomped on popcorn which I bought for her at 8:30 in the morning. That’s right. I’m that kind of mom.
By 10am, the family had eaten breakfast, I had a few cups of coffee and I was feeling much, much better.
This afternoon, while the rest of the laundry went round and round in the washer, we went out for a family walk in the park. We made it almost 2 miles with all three kids and the dog – not one tantrum (if you don’t count the sporadic “But I’m the line leader!” yelling as between the girls).
The trails in the park were nicely trafficked. It was good to see so much use on a holiday – I was sure that everyone would be at the shore. But of course, the weather was a little overcast but otherwise perfect so why wouldn’t you want to be outside? The feeling must have been mutual – we ran into friends and neighbors, chatted, and then headed home.
Lawdaddy thought he’d take a nap (insert maniacal laughter here) but the kids had other plans. While he tries to talk the 3 year old into a nap, I’m catching up on some blogging, making some bread and contemplating watching some DVR’ed episodes of Project Runway. After my mild breakdown on yesterday, life is finally good again. Let the school year begin!
