The Gay Threat

November 5, 2008

I love my husband. He is my best friend – a little irritating at times (ha! that’s what you get for not reading, lawdaddy!) – but my best friend nonetheless.

And short of Luke Wilson showing up single on my doorstep (psst, Luke, email me for directions), nothing will shake the faith that I have in my relationship.

So, Prop 8 supporters and other opponents of gay marriage, please help me understand: how does allowing gay marriage threaten the sanctity of marriage?

It’s not a smart ass question. I’m deadly serious. I just don’t get it.

I think the sanctity of marriage was heavily damaged when it was no longer considered to be a lifetime commitment. I think divorce challenges it more than letting any two people wed.

The argument I’ve heard most is that allowing gay marriage will lead to polygamy, etc. You know, because trying pot once or twice will make you a crack head for life.

I’m disturbed that I have to play second fiddle to Luke “I-have-less-talent-than-my-talentless-brother” Wilson.

And, re not reading, gotcha!

Thanks for your support. I wish more people felt like you but unfortunately, too many people fell prey to the lies and fears being tossed out by the supports of Prop 8.

my personal “guess” is that the mobilization of certain demographics for the election also helped Prop 8. sad as that may be.
