It’s Snowing Out.

It’s snowing out, which is a far cry from last week. In fact, on Sunday, it was 19 degrees out, colder than it had been in a very long time here in Philly.

I have not been out to enjoy the snow. First of all, it’s really nothing to write home about (though enough to get a mention on the blog!) - just a few large-ish flakes. Second, as much as I love a couple of good wintry days, I’m really not feeling it right now.

As a response, no doubt, to the days and days of trauma here at the house - what with the vomiting and other unpleasantness - I apparently felt the need to take all of the bugs and viruses on in a short time span (you know, get it all out at once). What this meant was that the 12+ hours of vomiting and “etc” landed me in the ER last night, a wee bit dehydrated and with a monster headache. Two bags of fluid with some Zoflan and some pain reliever/anti-inflammatory stuff mixed in later, I was feeling much better. Of course, by that time, it was also nearly midnight. My wonderful hubby sat at the ER with me for about 8 hours - and my lovely friends watched my children for that same time.

It is nice to have people to count on. I thought about this after my initial crying jag when I went through the “why do other moms have their mom to run to with things go wrong?” phase. And I quickly stopped that (I think I was delirious) because the reality is that my parents live far away, my husband’s parents cannot help out and that is what it is.

Of course, a few hours later we were treated to the behaviour of an overbearing mother in the ER. You see, “Anne”, I’ll call her Anne even though it’s not her real name and I do know her real name as does everyone else in the ER because she and her folks made such a scene, arrived at the ER with a friend. It was a crowded ER. Like me, Anne was complaining of being dehydrated. Unlike me, Anne was able to wander around with her friend and - yes - drink a cup of coffee. She was also able to call the doctor at her college, who had told her that she had the flu and to go home, to tell him that he basically called her a liar and now (horrors!) she was being admitted to the ER.

Anne’s parents (from NJ, so not from next door) finally made an appearance, all crazy about her being at the hospital. When she was finally admitted to a room, #11, next to me, her mother was whining about how she couldn’t believe that they had to wait an hour to be seen. It was a very crowded ER and I’ll tell you many, many folks (like myself) waited much more than an hour to be seen. And despite the fact that folks are supposed to be admitted based on level of care needed, Anne was taken before quite a number of other folks - which raised some eyebrows. I suppose that had a lot to do with the loud entourage that Anne brought with her - she added some older guy who were guessing was her uncle. Or maybe it was just her father - Chris heard him talking about calling an attorney, no doubt to sue the college.

Ay carumba. And you know that some attorney will no doubt take this case. And the lesson that Anne will take from this is that all she has to do when she feels wronged - whether she was or not - is yell a lot. Nice.

But I got some fluids and went home, feeling a lot better, though tired.

Ames got up when I got home. I think she was a bit freaked out by the pace of the day (join the club, sister). She just wanted to be held for awhile.

Charlie was crazy happy to see me this morning. He clung to me like a little monkey.

Katie was… well, Katie.

So, hopefully, I’ll fight off the rest of this nastiness shortly and all will return to normal. Well, as normal as it ever gets here.
