Dora the Explorer Gets Political

My youngest daughter is obsessed with Dora the Explorer.  Katie still enjoys Dora but has discovered Arthur, Buster and Pinky Dinky Do, so the fascination has waned a bit.  Amy, however, yells "DORA!" at every television and computer screen that she sees, so much so that you get the impression that we let her watch it 24/7.  In reality, I am not even sure when it’s on - and she only watches it when it’s actually on the TV during her alloted time, which changes depending on the day (sometimes in the early am when we’re getting ready - today, after nap time while I was working for a bit and Chris was trying to coax Katie into a nap, which, of course, didn’t work).

At any rate, if you follow Dora or Diego, you will note that there are only two or three episodes ever made, or so it seems.

In one episode, Dora and Boots have to figure out how to get past the "Echo Bush" which they do by yelling so that the "Echo Bush" yells back.  Then, they run through his mouth.  Sounds harmless enough except that Amy loves, loves, loves this part and spends much of her day running around yelling "Bush!  Bush!" and clapping.  It’s so disconcerting.

I asked Chris just today who the 30-some percent of people were who still support Bush.  Now I’m convinced it’s really just the AP picking up on the cheers of small children who happen to be obsessed with Dora.  There’s no other explanation.

I love this post, by the way, our dear friends’ daughter ADORES Dora.

Uhm, actually Dora and Diego are quite liberal as are the stations that televise them. And fyi, there are a lot more than 30% of people who support President Bush-just not maybe among your friends.

Bush’s approval rate is way lower than 30%, Mitch, so you might want to check on that one.

And I have lots of conservative friends and family - and have yet to meet one that still supports the current administration.

In fact, we have a running joke in our family because my extremely conservative father launched into a prayer on Thanksgiving 2001 thanking God for our current president. Similarly, on Thanksgiving 2002. Those prayers have now stopped. My father has now used the word “moron” to describe our current president on more than one occasion. That should worry the GOP because my dad? Totally their base. White, 60ish, middle class, southern, religious male. GOP his whole life. Eschews liberal causes. Flies a flag in our front yard. Drives American vehicles. Sends care packages to soldiers. And is counting down the days until we have no more W.
