Conservation time, C’mon*

February 12, 2007

*Yes, a blatant and poorly done rip off of Kool and the Gang’s Celebration.

I haven’t been terribly diligent with updates on my February challenge to conserve more…  That’s because it’s not going all that well.

First of all, the amount of garbage in my house is staggering to me (though hardly as much as a number of folks on my block – not sure what’s going on in those houses).  And the #1 resource that’s wasted?  Toilet paper.  I now understand why Jeff Foxworthy fears that he’s single-handedly killing off the rain forests by having girls…

Conserving more is challenging.  I consider myself a pretty environmentally aware kind of girl.  I walk or take public transit where I can.  I recycle.  I don’t drive a gas-guzzler.  I keep my heat low at my house.

But the challenge wasn’t to wax poetic about what I do already, it was to conserve more.  So…

I joined a local environmental group this week (Wissahickon Action on Global Warming) and plan to watch "An Inconvenient Truth" with the group this week.

And I’ve volunteered to help plan an Earth Day Awareness Block Party.

I’ll keep you posted.
