Sorry Charlie!

Oy. What a week. It’s just after 10pm on Friday and Charlie literally just laid down to go to sleep. He’s normally pretty good about bedtime but bounded out of bed earlier tonight, saying that his room was “scary.” Poor boy. He’s had quite a week, I suspect his imagination [...]

What Have I Done to Deserve This?

Last night, the kiddos were exhausted. It had been an extremely long day and yet, they were wound up. After a quick episode of “The Backyardigans”, the girls were off to bed. Charlie had fallen asleep in the first five minutes.
Halfway through the night, poor Charlie woke up with a hacking cough. [...]

There Will Be Blood

Yesterday was not one of my finest days… It was complete day #1 of Chris being in Germany. And it showed.
It started off well enough. I got the kiddos to school and headed to the Y where I did a respectable (for me) 5k. I rushed back, made myself presentable and [...]

No Twitter?!

I am finally at CHOP for Charlie’s (minor) surgery.  They have assured me that I would be in and out…  so I decided to forego coffee (!) in order to use one of the many computers provided for parents.  I checked my blogs for comments and then headed over to tweet on twitter.  I was [...]

Hopefully, you’ll be seeing less of me.

Not on the blogosphere. Just generally.
During my stupidity-related hospitalization (let’s just say it involved a lot of gardening in the heat, moving of furniture down two flights of stairs by myself and a bolt cutter), the wonderful doctor who was treating me in the ER (and I’m not being cheeky, he really was wonderful) [...]

Just When We Thought It Was Safe…

Ames has taken a little turn, recovery-wise.  Yesterday, she had a low fever and was generally cranky.  This after days of feeling much better, post-surgery.
Last night, there was lots of waking up, crying, screaming.  We gave her some pain medicine, which we had successfully avoided doing all day other than Tylenol.  She was terribly out [...]

It’s Set.

Doctor has confirmed that Amy’s adenoids have to go. The surgery is the end of May.
I’m excited to have some kind of confirmation that something is wrong that can be fixed - besides the “she’s just small” or “it might be allergies” type of stuff. I have high hopes for the surgery.
Of course, [...]

Where to Begin…

So, a note or two before I post… I wrote all of this post in my notebook and on my laptop while fairly stressed out over the course of a couple of days. Some of the political commentary is a bit esoteric and I thought about editing it out after the fact, but [...]

It’s All About Control.

Poison Control, that is.
Parents, write this number down! 1.800.222.1222
First of all, the National Poison Control Center is a great service. It’s free, it’s fast, they are full of useful information.
I have called Poison Control twice now.
The first was when my oldest daughter decided that she wanted to drink a bottle of rubbing alcohol; she [...]

They’re Not Calling Me Stumpy…

They didn’t have to amputate my foot, many thanks to all of you who asked…
I decided to see a podiatrist about “the thing” on my foot. I feel very strongly that you should see a specialist when you have issues – despite what my HMO thinks – so I made the call. I [...]
