My new theory is that these young girls in Hollywood like Ashlee Simpson and Nicole Richie are getting pregnant so that they can finally eat.
Just sayin.

A lot has been written and talked about with respect to the “Ellen dog fiasco.” And I thought I’d take a moment to add my thoughts because… well, why not have yet another perspective, right?
Actually, I feel kind of strongly about this, which is why I wanted to say something. I’ve seen a lot of comments berating Ellen for “not reading the contract” and going on and on about the law. And usually, I come down on the side of the law. Laws are in place to protect us and to protect those who can’t always speak up (dogs, children, you get the idea).
In this instance, I agree that Ellen did the wrong thing. I also feel very strongly that the agency overreacted.
I have a “rescue dog” - I’ll bet that many of you have rescue animals. We picked up our dog, Lyle, from the SPCA. We named Lyle, we paid for him, we pay for his vet bills and his license. But we do not “own” Lyle. The papers that we signed say that we have to give him back to the SCPA if we no longer can care for him or if the SPCA feels that we’re not taking care of him properly.
Knowing all of this, I still call Lyle my dog. He has lived in our house for eight years. And in my will, I have bequeathed him to my parents if something happens to Chris and I. Legally, we can’t do this. Legally, we have to give him back. But realistically, what are the chances of Lyle being adopted out to a good home if he were to go back to the SPCA? He is now an 8 year old energetic lab with a crooked jaw. You and I both know that he would likely be destroyed. And imagine what would happen if every animal that was ever adopted through a “rescue” organization returned it when he or she couldn’t take care of it? Chaos.
The point of those papers, really, isn’t to tie the hands of a pet owner looking to do what’s best for the pet. It’s to ensure that dogs are not resold, abandoned, mistreated, etc.
So, was Ellen wrong? Of course. Was that agency really doing the right thing - or maybe just looking to make a point in the presence of lots of press? Draw your own conclusions.
And yeah, in case I forget to mention it… Bono is in Philly accepting the Liberty Medal. I love this town. And Bono. But mainly this town.
It’s on YouTube, so for those of you who didn’t see it…
So this is all I’m saying about Britney’s train wreck of a VMA performance.
We are both two white girls from the rural South.
One of us had slightly better hair than the other tonight. I had dirty hair in a ponytail. She had a bad weave. Lawmummy 1, Britney 0.
One of us had a bigger ass than the other. Only mine was safely esconced in a pair of capri pants and not hanging out of a too small bikini-thing. Edge, only slightly Britney.
Both of us had difficulty holding a conversation or remembering words tonight. Hers, likely chemically induced. Mine, dealing with three cranky children over a hot, busy weekend. Draw.
One of us can dance a little bit better than the other. Britney had a lifetime of dance lessons. I, on the other hand, can stand without support. Lawmummy 2, Britney 1.
Hmm. Maybe I should consider a comeback album?
Despite the fact that I told Chris no more blogs, I couldn’t help myself. I had given up Kids Dish earlier (to the very talented girlfiend) because I was finding it difficult to continue to dream up creative entries about food and kids. Perhaps it was because I was also finding it difficult to deal with food and kids. But that’s another story.
Skip ahead. The blogging is going smoothly - taxgirl.com is loads of fun to write and I’m really enjoying my kids’ book blog (I’m going to interview Meg Cabot! I’m going to interview Meg Cabot!). I’m constantly scouring the press releases from the publishers to write for the book blog - and I found out about Gossip Girl. And I was really intrigued. It was being turned into a TV series for the CW, which kind of re-ignited interest in the books which I missed the first go round (which is why I mentioned it on my site well after its debut).
At any rate, I started following the book series - and the show - and a little ad happened to catch my eye for a Gossip Girl blogger. Oh yeah. I couldn’t help myself. I applied. I got it. So if you’re into the drama, check it out at www.gossipgirlreport.com. It’s so retro-90210. And I’m loving it.
Because I now think that Danica McKellar is the coolest girl ever. The former child star of “The Wonder Years” went on to get her degree in… Math. And now she’s telling the world that being smart is cool.
Her book, Math Doesn’t Suck: How to Survive Middle School Math Without Losing Your Mind or Breaking a Nail goes on sale this week.
As much as the next girl, but should this headline really be above “Bush ready to veto stem cell measure” or “2 Sunni mosques attacked in Iraq”:
I don’t care who knows it: I am a 90210 fan. Oh yeah. I have the series finale on tape (that’s videotape to those youngins reading).
And I’m a Dancing with the Stars fan.
So you can only imagine how excited I am to learn that Jennie Garth is going to be on the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars…
Ian Ziering was on last season. Chris is still scratching his head, going, “Who is that again? Why should I know him?”
And it was rumored that Tori Spelling was considering being on the show.
OMG. A Kelly/Donna reunion?
It’s all so much to take in. ABC, if you’re reading, so do this. I promise I won’t miss an episode.
Throw Jason Priestley and Luke Perry in the mix and it would be like freakin’ prom on 90210. Think of the ratings!
This little tidbit in the news:
The sheriff, who was traveling to Istanbul for an anti-terrorism conference, did not attend Tuesday’s board meeting.
I’m sorry. Wha-huh?
Why is the Los Angeles sheriff attending an anti-terrorism conference in Istanbul? Unless the media didn’t mean Turkey - and in fact, the Istanbul they’re referring to is located in the Hollywood Hills or Compton - you have to wonder: is this really the best use of taxpayer money?
