Ain’t No Mountain High Enough

June 9, 2005

Katie hiked down a mountain today. All of the way, on her own power. It was approximately a one mile hike down Blue Hill Mountain in Blue Hill, Maine. Not Everest, but then she’s only three.

This was important to me as a mother for two reasons. (1) I just think it’s cool that she did it and (2) I love her independent spirit. Even on the tough parts, she would say, “No Daddy, Katie’s turn.”

She’s a real trooper. I love that she wants to do things like climb down a mountain by herself. I hope that she holds onto her curiosity and her independence. Those are remarkable traits.
