It’s Bono, Baby.

Category: Celebs, Philadelphia – lawmummy – 10:58 am

And yeah, in case I forget to mention it…  Bono is in Philly accepting the Liberty Medal.  I love this town.  And Bono.  But mainly this town.

Take that, Mets!

So the Phillies are in first place now (wahoo!).   But that’s not what has been keeping me away from the blog.

It’s been a tough week or so.  The judge made me cry on Monday (potential lawyers to be, look away) because he does not understand how difficult opposing counsel is being.  Our negotiations have broken down, a fact that the judge used to chastise me that I should be ashamed of myself.  He has no idea what’s really going on.  Sigh.  And I really can’t say.  But let’s just say that this is, without a doubt, the most miserable case of my career.  It has gone on for three and a half years.  It is pro bono.  And it is a horrible experience.

On Tuesday, I had a busy day.  It was one of those high and low days, I won’t bore you with the lows but you know how it goes - when it peaks, it peaks, but when it valleys, look out.

I am really enjoying my new gig as Channel Editor over at b5 media - it’s a great community and it lets me do the kind of stuff I like to do (writing, marketing, brainstorming).  Plus, the hours are wonderful since I can do much of it at night (hooray).  We’re currently hiring, so be sure and check out the Job Board.

The girls love school - and soccer (Amy) and dance (Katie) have started, too.  Our Saturdays are officially crazy these days.

So, you’re probably getting the sense that life has been a whirlwind, which it has.  Some of it for the best.  Some of it for some as yet unknown reason.  I am trying to keep my chin up.  Hope you are doing the same.

And oh yeah, GO PHILLIES!

System Upgrading

UPGRADE FROM BOYFRIEND TO HUSBAND

Dear IT Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a slow down in the overall performance, particularly in the flower, gifts and jewellery applications that had operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0 un-installed many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, but installed undesirable programs such as Formula One 5.0, NBA 3.0 and World Cup 2.0.And now Conversation 8.0 no longer runs and House Cleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. I’ve tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems but to no avail. What can I do?

Signed, Desperate Housewife

Dear Desperate Housewife,

First keep in mind:Boy friend 5.0 is an entertainment package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system.Try entering the command C:\ I THOUGHT YOU LOVED ME and download Tears 6.2 to install Guilt 3.0.If all works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically  run the applications Jewellery 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.

But remember, overuse can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence2.5, Happy Hour 7.0 or Late Night Teh Tarik 6.1.  Late Night 6.1 is a very bad program that will create SnoringLoudly.wavfiles ..

Whatever you do, DO NOT install Mother-in-Law 1.0 or reinstall another Boyfriend program.  These are not supported applications and will crash Husband 1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have a limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider additional software to improve memory and performance. I personally recommend Hot Tasty Food 3.0 and Tongkat Ali 6.9.

Good Luck,
IT Support

SLUT transit

Category: News – lawmummy – 7:53 pm

Oh yeah.  You think I’m being inappropriate?  Just reporting the news.

I ran across a fabulous story out of Seattle about their new transit system.  A new streetcar line was initially touted as South Lake Union Trolley until someone pointed out that the acronym was SLUT.  Of course, they then changed it to the South Lake Union Streetcar (SLUS) but it was too late:  all over the neighborhood, they’re calling it the SLUT.  They’re even selling T-shirts that read “Ride the SLUT.”

Tsk, tsk.  Gotta love that government attention to detail.

Blech.

I am tired. As in bone-settling tired.

Chris says today, “I know that we are going to have to do this in shifts, but I’m going to need a nap.” The result? Chris napping on the sofa, Charlie napping in his crib, me dealing with fussy girls who refuse to nap - after already having cleaned up the kitchen after lunch and thrown a load of laundry in the wash - the clean laundry is currently sitting in the corner, giving me the “eye”, wondering when I’m going to fold it and put it away. Never! Bwa-hahaha.

Sigh.

It’s rather gray outside and not terribly seasonal. The high is supposed to creep up to 86 today and with the humidity, it just feels gross. We were supposed to pick apples today and have decided to wait, considering the stinky weather.

Hey, Mother Nature, it’s supposed to be September. Sep-tem-ber. You know, the beginning of autumn? Let’s get it together, how bout it?

I have a lot of posts floating around inside my head. And fortunately, I now have pictures to go with some of them. We stopped by the store today and resolved our “pictures trapped inside of our camera” issue.

Sorry for the rambling post. Sipping on some hot tea (yes, despite the temperature) and trying to will the weather into acting like autumn… More later.

So Who is God Listening To?

Category: Home and Garden, Religion – lawmummy – 10:13 am

Apparently God has been too busy answering court complaints to help me sell my house.

This fact came up at my house last week with a group of friends.  I explained that I had even bought St. Joseph from the Catholic Supply Store (yes, my mom knows), buried him in the front yard and said the accompanying “sell my house” prayer.

Nonetheless, I explained, “And God didn’t answer my prayers.”  To which my friend, Suzanne replied, “Because he answered mine.”

The good news is…

Category: Law – lawmummy – 8:55 pm

That the conference I was dreading this week got postponed.

The bad news is that it was rescheduled for Monday.

It is a pro bono case that has gone terribly wrong.  It’s dragged on for three years (not a typo).  There have been threats of violence to my office, lots of nastiness.

And that’s all I can say about it for now.

Goodbye Summer Green Thumb Sunday.

Category: Home and Garden – lawmummy – 12:33 pm

Last night, it was 53 degrees. 53. About damn time. I am over waiting for the summer heat to say its goodbyes.

It does, however, also mean the last of the brilliant summer color. Here’s a parting shot of the front garden, more echinacea, some bee balm (raspberry wine) and moonbeam coreopsis. All easy to grow and lots of color all season long. Sigh. It’s the one bit of summer I’ll be sad to see go.

As for Green Thumb Sunday:  Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.
