Time and time.

Category: Fitness and Health – lawmummy – 11:53 am

Thanks for the nice messages about my mom. Her mammogram and sonogram are both scheduled for this morning. Yeah, that’s right. Two weeks after she found the lump. Those of you who remember my grandmother’s bout with cancer will understand why I am not happy about this delay, which was solely for convenience (they wanted to do both exams together and this was the only time that worked).

It is apparently not an infected cyst; the antibiotics did not affect it at all.

So fingers crossed.

Hungry?

When I updated the site, I noticed that the number of feed subscribers dropped dramatically.

If you want to subscribe to the feed, check out the info in the sidebar at top right.  You can subscribe via email (my favorite) or via a number of aggregators (I particularly enjoy Pageflakes).

And yeah, since I’m a lawyer, I do have a privacy policy.

Free Music. And it rocks.

Category: Music – admin – 9:48 am

Today’s free download on iTunes is Bruce Springsteen’s “Radio Nowhere.”  First new release from Springsteen in 5 years.

Download it now.  For free.  You won’t regret it.

I’ll be working on the blog theme… (whistled to the tune of “I’ll be working on the railroad”)

Category: Blog issues – admin – 4:33 am

For most of the week.

I’m not crazy about the theme but it’s up.  I’ll ponder.

I’ll work on reconstructing the blogroll, so don’t take it personally if you’re missing for a bit.

But it’s late (or early, depending on how you look at it).  Amy and Charlie have both seemed to settle back in.  I’m so tired.  Going to bed now.

It’s working! It’s working!

Category: Blog issues – admin – 3:00 am

It’s also 3:24 a.m. but that’s not my point…

Granted, I did not get up to blog.  Amy has been up not once, not twice, but many, many times this evening.  The last was to complain about the window being open.  And now I can’t sleep.

But it’s working (insert maniacal laughter here).

Thanks to Rob and Jackie for their comments here.  It helped me sort out that it was an upload issue.

Bear with me as I piece things back together throughout the week.  I may even (giggle) get my blogrolls back and that means…  Green Thumb Sunday and more.  I’m lovin’ it!

I should run for office.

Category: Home and Garden, School – lawmummy – 9:21 pm

I am, apparently, the queen of flip-flop.

Not on purpose, mind you.

Remember this big announcement?  And my reasons why?

Well, I take it back.  Sort of.  The house is still on the market but my heart is no longer in it.  At least not for fall.  We picked the worst market in 16 years to try and sell our house.  In summer.  A hot summer.  We don’t have an agreement of sale yet.  And that’s a problem.

You see, school starts next week.  Next week.  And Katie is in kindergarten.  And I am not moving her about from school to school.  So, she is officially going back to private school at Greene Street Friends.  I love it there, she loves it there.  They were kind enough to keep a spot open pending all of the craziness.  And on next Tuesday, that’s where she’ll be.  And where she’s staying for a bit.

I am so not good with change.  Well, that’s not true.  I’m fine with change.  I’m the kind of girl, pre-kid, who could change on a whim.  I would fly on a moment’s notice, get on a train just to see where it was going, open my own firm just for fun…  Yeah.

But kids change you a lot more than you think.   Now every decision isn’t about me.  Or even me and Lawdaddy.  There are three other little creatures to consider - four, really - we can’t forget about Lyle.

And the move was a big deal.  We spent lots of time prepping the girls, and talking about Katie’s new school.  Only there’s no new school.  We’re back to the old school.  And I like the old school.  I just can’t afford the old school for three kids.

Sigh.

I always used to say that things happen for a reason.  And now Lawdaddy is throwing that back at me.  And my mom, too.  While crying on the phone (yes, I’ll cop to crying) when our potential buyers dropped their offer (don’t get me started), mom was saying (after telling me to pray about it - at which point I told her that I had buried a St. Joseph statue in the front yard which kept her quiet because that’s Catholic and she has issues with Catholicism) that things happen for a reason.  I’m not sure what the reason is yet.  I’m working on it.

Maybe we’re meant to stay put a bit.  I don’t know.  I’m not sure what any of it means.  I just know that half of our things are packed away in boxes, stored in the garage.  And I’m not sure we’re going anywhere.

Not enough maps for Miss USA? Priceless.

This is priceless. Just priceless.

Stellar timing

So, did we pick the best time to list our house or what?

You Know You Love Me*

Category: Me – lawmummy – 10:26 pm

Yes, it’s a Gossip Girl reference, not a crazy egomaniac moment.

But I had one of those tonight, too.  Girlfiend apparently scolded a local reporter for not including me as a blogger in a piece on blogging for the paper.  This “correction” was published here:

Second, I missed the fact that there is another prominent citizen in Roxborough who blogs as well: Kelly Philips Erb of the Erb law Firm, President of the Roxborough Development Corporation and wearer of many other hats including the most important parent and mother. A few residents seemed to have taken exception that I failed to mention her. The goal of the article was to let people know how diverse blogs can be, what they are, how they got started. Erb does quite a bit in this community that it was quite easy to over look the fact she was a blogger.

Thanks, girlfiend… I think?

Cranky McCranky Pants

Category: Blog issues – lawmummy – 9:52 pm

Grumble, grumble.

For weeks, weeks, I say, I have tried to convert my WordPress.com blog into WordPress.org.

I did the 5 minute install of WordPress.org (not so much 5 minutes, but it worked).  And then the trouble:  I have tried every freakin’ variation that I can think of to import my WP files - but nothing.  They are clearly there, sitting harmlessly in a file on my desktop, having been exported nicely from WordPress.com.  I’ve opened the file.  I’ve perused.  It’s there.  To the tune of over 4 meg.

And then I go to import and I get a nice note that the “file is empty.”  Oh really?

I’ve tried all kinds of variations on a theme.  I’ve read the forum support.  I’ve scoured the internet for suggestions as to how to help.

Break down the file into a smaller size, they suggested.  Check.  Nope.

Double check that your server doesn’t have a max php upload that’s smaller.  Check.  Nope.

Double check the php.ini file.  Check.  Nope.

Reinstall.  Check.  Nope.

Reinstall again.  Check.  Nope.

I’m clueless.  Totally clueless.

And about a million times now, I’ve thought about not switching altogether.  The problem is this:  WordPress.com won’t let me run script.  That means, for example, that I’m having problems with script-based Blogrolls like Green Thumb Sunday.  The switch to WordPress.org should have been seamless and really only meant that I could add the script - my blog feeds would stay the same, etc.

And nothin.

I hate it.  I hate it.  I hate it.
